A word from the Starsky & Hutch SVS Steering Committee….

From Kandy: What do they say about never say never, or this is the last time? Well, I’m eating those words of last year. One year ago, I honestly figured SHSVS7 would be the last. Well, here we are again with SHSVS8. Only four episodes, but three of those four would have made six in other years. And now there is talk of a ninth season. Wow. Okay, I guess the ride isn’t over yet. 😉  Thank you, Candy and Barb, as always. Without Candy’s vision and Barb’s excellent editing skills, this project wouldn’t be what it is today. Look for the three of us at MWC*25. I guess Candy has signed us up for a Starsky & Hutch panel. 🙂  Thank you, authors and artists. Without you, there would be no zine to produce. And once again, I must thank D.L. for her wonderful layout skills. Thank you, the reader. Without your interest, the effort wouldn’t be worth it. Enjoy.

From Barb: Here we are at the end of another season.  This new format of fewer episodes eases our time commitment, but the quality of the stories has not diminished. In addition to Lucy’s terrific episode, our own Candy Apple came up with a wonderfully suspenseful two-parter. And we welcomed a new writer to the project – Theresa Kyle, who rounded out the season with an intriguing case story during the holidays. It was a very smooth season compared to some, which must mean we’re all getting used to this! Thanks to Candy for her direction and guidance, and to Kandy for making the episodes look so nice, both on the site and in the zine. Our artists this season, Shar and Virginia Sky, contributed a lot of the presentation of the episodes, and we also thank Lorraine for her beautiful cover. And I’d like to add my appreciation to Antoinette, Deborah, and Keri for their thorough beta skills and suggestions. We hope you enjoy this zine and stick around for yet another season next fall.

From Candy: It’s hard to believe that this Season 8 zine represents the fourth year of the Starsky & Hutch Slash Virtual Season, and we’re now planning Season 9, or year number five! This project has a history now, and in the course of time we’ve worked on it, the whole world has changed. The tragedy of 9/11, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, gay couples tying the knot in San Francisco, civil unions being legalized in some states—and gay marriage being outlawed officially in others. Not that I put a fannish project in the company of world history-making events, but the Virtual Season represents a lot of hours—and years—of the lives of the team who make it happen.

It is definitely a part of our life histories now. Barb is one of the finest editors in fandom, and I remain ecstatic to have her on board, investing countless hours polishing the work of our talented, creative authors, without whom none of this would happen. And after the authors write and Barb edits, Kandy is the web wizard who makes it all come together in a snazzy, top quality website we can all be proud to show off as the home of our Virtual Season. She responds to all the technical issues, and keeps us “on the air” and looking as sharp as a freshly waxed Torino. So my special thanks go to Barb and Kandy. I couldn’t have asked for better colleagues and friends to help coordinate this project. Our artists amaze me, and I’m grateful for the way they bring that vital visual component to life. Thanks and kudos also go to D.L. for her lovely zine layout work, and to our beta readers and consultants for all they do behind the scenes. A huge thank you to our readers, whether you “tune in” on-line or wait for the printed zine. Your feedback and enjoyment of our work makes this project a joy to produce!

A Word From BlackJag Publishing

Once again we must thank our readers and contributors for their continued patronage of our zines. You’re what keeps us going year after year. We never realized how much work was involved in producing these things. They are truly a labor of love, and we hope it shows. We feel each one gets better and better. We’re proud of this latest offering, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to fruition.

This outing marks a drastic cut back for us. Only two zines at once. 🙂  We learned our lesson last year. Four was three too many. Life is not letting up one iota, so our production is way down, much to our dismay.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

BlackJag Publishing
