A word from the Starsky & Hutch SVS Steering Committee….

From Kandy: We’re baa…cck. At the end of Season 5, we all knew we were going to do a Season 6 with changes. The grind of producing an episode a week was nearly impossible to maintain. So we decided every other week and fewer episodes. In some regard that turned out to be harder, and by the end of the season Barb and I were ready to call it a wrap. Damn if Candy Apple didn’t flip our guilt switches and talk us into doing just a few more episodes to wrap up the loose ends. So, yes, there will be a Season 7.

Thank you, Barb, for once again doing a wonderful editing job and lifting me up when my spirits and energy were lagging. Thank you, Candy, for helming this project and allowing me to be a part of it. Thank you, authors and artists. Without you, there would be no zine to produce. And once again, I must thank D.L. for her wonderful layout skills. Thank you, the reader. Without your interest, the effort wouldn’t be worth it. Enjoy.

From Barb: Kandy and I even met in person this past year and were firm in our resolve that we wanted our lives back. But as many of you know from reading her posts, Candy has this way about her. She can be very persuasive and is the most diplomatic person I’ve ever known. It’s been these qualities, as well as her organizational skills, that got us through situations” as they arose this past season. And Kandy did an incredible job with even fewer web help and artist, often touching up last-minute glitches just minutes before airtime. She gets the credit for presenting the episodes to you on time and polished. She is also responsible for publishing this zine and maintaining the site, which she had to scramble to restore after it just disappeared one day.

I’d like to thank the beta reader, who did a terrific job on the first drafts, often with limited time. Sue, especially, worked on several episodes under pressure. And the artists came up with some remarkable illos for the episodes. But the writing is what defines a good season. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience working with such a talent group of authors, several of whom submitted two episodes. I look forward to working with those returning in Season 7 and hope you “viewers” and reader will be along for the ride. The toughest part about presenting a virtual season is the constant deadline pressure intertwined with all that real life can throw at us. It’s been a pleasure to work with such a dedicated group to produce a project such as this. We hope you continue to enjoy it.

From Candy: When I started the first little email planning group for the Starsky & Hutch Slash Virtual Season, I had no clue where it would lead. There were some good and bad surprises along the way, but very few dull moments. I’m utterly delighted we’re back in the saddle again for Season 7, and even more delighted that Barb and Kandy could be persuaded to continue contributing their immense talents to this project. Working with them both has been one of the best parts of doing this. I’ve never had to question their commitment to the project, or their commitment to excellence. Barb is nothing short of stellar as a managing editor, and her attention to detail is exceptional; Kandy handles our web presence with a professionalism and dedication that makes it look seamless and easy, even though we know better!

In addition to a massive thank you to my cohorts on the Steering Committee, I have to thank our authors for Seasons 5, 6, and 7. While we’ve put guidelines in place and we plan our milestones as a team, these authors come up with their own inventive plots and add their own distinctive voices to the development of our characters and our universe. Our artists “decorate” the episodes and bring them to life in visual art. The visual component is key to a virtual season, and these ladies give us some beautiful images for which we’re truly grateful. Our beta readers, consultants, and researcher are all vital parts of our team, and I appreciate each and every one of them. Most importantly, I want to thank all the readers, whether you’ve been enjoying the seasons online, or are just getting to know us through the printed zines. To those of you who have sent feedback, we read it all and it makes the whole project worthwhile. Thanks for reading, commenting, enjoying, and loving Starsky & Hutch as much as we do!
